GOAL SETTING
A goal is an objective that is to be achieved within a given period of time. It is said that ‘a man who does not know where he is going will not know when he gets to his destination. ‘Goal setting is so crucial to individuals and even organization in order to achieve maximum satisfaction and profits. Living without a goal can make life very meaningless because you can work so hard and not any reach anywhere meaningful.
A person who wants to set goals must first think deeply about what he wants to achieve. Goals are powerful motivators for everything you do. You must set specific and realistic goals because if you are able to achieve them, it increases your self-confidence and happiness. Taking pride in the little things you have achieved increases your desire to achieve greater things. Making your goal specific helps you to evaluate where you are in terms of achieving your goal and also pushes you to do more when you are falling behind.
Goals must be grouped into short term, midterm and long term goals. The short and midterm goals should all focus in achieving the long term goal. An example is a student should focus his energy on how to first pass his GED rather than occupying himself with the course he will read at the master’s level. In this case, the short term goal is strategies to pass the GED, the midterm goal will be on the bachelor’s degree and the long term will be the master’s program. If you don’t break it down, you will get so overwhelmed and might not be able to achieve it.It is also important to write the goals down because by seeing it on paper it has a deeper impact than if you just think about it.
Regular evaluation also helps to make you stay on track.it should not be too easy or too difficult to achieve our goals. If it is too easy you will get bored and if it is too difficult you will be discouraged. You will be confident your goal is achievable when you meet your short term and midterm goals. The joy of meeting these goals should not lead you to relax but energize you to achieve more because the achievement of the long term goal is going to bring you the greatest joy and a very deep sense of fulfillment.
