Peace with God

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God. Romans 5:1
For a man to be at war with God is the most dangerous thing that can ever happen. For a subject to be in a state of sedition against a powerful king is treason and to incur the forfeiture of his life. For a creature to pick arms against the creator is an appalling thing indeed. But that is what happens when man is in charge of his own life. You see life is such that either Jesus is in control or we are. Until the day we accept Jesus as the Lord of our lives, we are actually at loggerheads with Him.

The requirement from God to man is for us to obey His word perfectly. No man has ever or will ever obey the ten commandments perfectly. The man who says he has submitted himself fully to its requirement is only referring to a diluted version of what God actually expects from us. For instance the command 'thou shall not commit adultery' goes deeper than the actual intimacy between a man and a woman. A cursory look at a woman with lust is enough to condemn a man into the lake of fire. If the law also applies to our desires and our thought life, then who can stand before God on the judgment day?

There is no one who is just and righteous before God and consequently there awaits nothing but condemnation for all of us. There is a wide chasm between a man being just in his own eyes, and his being justified in the eyes of God. When people talk about having peace with God, they mostly refer to being at peace with their conscience which is not the same as being at peace with God. The true peace of God flows like a river. It preserves a tranquil frame amidst storm, tempest, and tribulation.

There must be a foundation for peace of God and this can only be found in Jesus. The peace of a Christian is not a lull of stupefaction. It has a basis and a valid reason. It cannot be premised on our ancestral linkage like the Jews claim to be descendants of Abraham, or even our good works. It is simply achieved by trusting in the holy transaction on the Calvary cross of  Jesus. We all owed God by virtue of our evil ways and by our parentage to Adam. Jesus suffered just as we deserved to suffer in hell and His righteousness was bestowed on us. Any basis for peace with is not built on this sure rock will not work. The time you have to live on earth is running out. Make a decision today for Jesus because peace with Him is your greatest treasure.
